SUMMARY:Rorate Mass
DESCRIPTION:Come join the Rorate Masses at the Chapel on Advent Thursdays early morning\, at 7:00. Afterwards stay for sharing\, breakfast and a nice cup of coffee/tea. In December on Thursday 5\, 12 and 19 at 7:00.\n \nThe “Rorate” Mass is an ancient Advent tradition that takes its name from the opening words of the Introit (which is an opening psalm or antiphon)\, coming from Isaiah 45:8. \n“Rorate\, caeli\, desuper\, et nubes pluant justum\, aperiatur terra\, et germinet Salvatorem.” \n“Drop down dew\, ye heavens\, from above\, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Savior.” – Isaiah 45:8 \nA Rorate  Mass is traditionally celebrated just before dawn during the Advent as a devotion to the Virgin Mary. This Mass in honor of Virgin Mary is a beautiful candlelit Mass that begins in the darkness of early morning. The interplay of light and darkness as the church becomes progressively brighter with the sunrise symbolizes the coming of the Eternal Light\, whom we await during the Advent season. \nWhat is the History of the Rorate Mass? \nThe Rorate Mass originated in the Middle Ages as one of the many Advent devotions to the Virgin Mary. The Liturgy was very popular among the people\, especially in German-speaking areas\, and was commonly celebrated on all Saturdays during Advent\, with some areas having a Rorate Mass several or even all weekdays in the season.

SUMMARY:How to disagree well : Christian Reconciliation
DESCRIPTION:A series of three conferences on the difficult journey of HOPE and how to transform conflict.\nThis series aims to facilitate a deep encounter between faith and some leaders involved in the public and political sphere.\nFrom the heart of Europe\, we want to contribute to a more sustainable peace in today’s polarised society\, not through seeking shallow common ground\, but through better understanding our differences – learning to disagree well.\nFollowing the “Rose way” we invite you to navigate change and transform conflict so together wecan reimagine peace.\nThis is a joint project of Rose Castle Foundation  and Chapel for Europe.\n\n 1st Conference – Tuesday 21.01.2025 – 19:00HOW TO DISAGREE WELL – CHRISTIAN RECONCILIATION\nDuring the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity we aim to discuss Rose Castle’s project “ChristianWisdom of Reconciliation” based on the 12 Habits of reconciliation for fostering EcumenicalDialogue.Reconciliation seeks healing of what is broken. It recognises all is not well\, and repair is needed. The 12 Habits are practical characteristics emerging from decades observing reconcilers on thefrontlines of violent conflict. Unlike some forms of inter-faith engagement\, it is not about seeking agreement but rather sharing our very different scriptural texts to address a shared contemporary challenge or issue. SUMMARY:Prayer Vigil for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:The prayer vigil for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity  will take place at the Protestant Church\, Place du Nouveau Marché aux Grains 8\, 1000 Brussels\, on Thursday 23 January 2025 at 19:00. \nIn the northern hemisphere\, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity traditionally takes place from 18 to 25 January\, while in the southern hemisphere\, where January is often a holiday period\, churches often celebrate the Week of Prayer around Pentecost. \nThe theme of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025 is based on a text from the Gospel of John: “Do you believe this?” (John 11:26). The prayers and reflections have been prepared by the brothers and sisters of the monastic community of Bose in northern Italy. As usual\, an international team appointed jointly by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity [DPCU] and the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches worked with the authors to finalize the materials. \nThe year 2025 will mark the 1\,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council. This commemoration provides a unique opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the common faith of Christians as expressed in the Creed formulated at that Council. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025 is an invitation to draw on this common heritage and to enter more deeply into the faith that unites all Christians. \nThe resources include an introduction to the theme\, an ecumenical service\, a selection of short readings and prayers for each day of the Week. Because of the ecumenical significance of the year 2025\, short patristic texts\, mostly from the first millennium\, have also been included to give an insight into Christian reflection at that time and to help place the definitions of the Council of Nicea in the contexts in which they originated and were influenced. The resources can be used in a variety of ways and are intended for use not only during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity\, but throughout the year 2025. \nThe DPCU is pleased to publish the texts for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025. \nImage: Greek-Orthodox Metropolis in Paris \n

SUMMARY:21st Israeli-Palestinian joint Memorial Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, Israel observes Memorial Day\, a day on which victims of terror and violence are commemorated. The organisations Parents’ Circle Families Forum and Combatants for Peace use this commemoration to highlight the suffering caused by terror\, war\, retaliation and other violence on both sides of the conflict. They bring together victims from different backgrounds\, both Israeli and Palestinian. Family members bear witness to the deaths of their loved ones\, but also to their desire to work towards peace and justice\, towards security for everyone\, and towards a shared future. \nOn 20 April 2026\, the 21st Joint Ceremony will be organised. First\, due to COVID and then due to the war in Gaza\, Palestinians and Israelis could no longer attend this ceremony together in person. \nBut that has not stopped the organisers from putting together a strong programme featuring powerful testimonies\, music\, poetry and speeches. It is always a deeply moving event\, thanks to the authentic stories and the powerful message of peace\, justice and reconciliation. \nHow can you follow this ceremony? \n1. Would you like to follow this ceremony together with others? Then join us on Monday evening\, 20 April at 19:00. We will gather at the Chapel for Europe in Rue Van Maerlant\, 22-24\, 1040 Etterbeek. Registration is required.\nREGISTER HERE \n2. Would you prefer to follow from home? Then register on the American Friends of the Parents’ Circle Families Forum website HERE to receive the screening link. \nThe ceremony will be in English\, Arab\, and Hebrew. Unfortunately\, we cannot translate everything throughout the evening; that would disrupt the serenity of the ceremony. \nIn collaboration \nThanks to the enormous efforts of Parents’ Circle Families Forum and Combatants for Peace\, the 21st Joint Ceremony is taking place this year. This requires not only organisational and technical skills\, but also psycho-social and emotional strength. It is an exceptional event that deals with one of the worst forms of pain: the loss of a child\, of a parent\, of a brother or sister. To bear witness to this is no easy task\, certainly not when you do so alongside people who are labelled as the enemy by propaganda.\nPax Christi Flanders has been promoting this Joint Ceremony in Flanders since 2018. This year\, we are pleased to announce that we will be collaborating with Pax Christi International\, the Platform of Israeli NGOs for Human Rights\, the German Friends of Parents Circle Families Forum and Women Wage Peace/Women of the Sun Belgium.

SUMMARY:Children's mass with parents
DESCRIPTION:The Mass will be held mainly in French; some parts may be in English\, depending on the participants. \n\nA celebration with children aged 0 to 6 and their families. \nCelebrant: Fr. Bernd Günther SJ. \nThe following dates for the first half of 2026 are: 17 May and 21 June. \nThe Mass is especially for children aged 0 to 6\, who remain on the large carpet in front of the altar\, surrounded by their parents. \nThe service is adapted for children\, including the hymns\, homily and liturgy\, to involve them as much as possible\, and lasts 45 minutes (60 minutes including arrival and return of the rugs). \nAfterwards\, families gather for a light snack. \nBreastfeeding is welcome\, nappy changing is possible\, and there are toilets and a lift for pushchairs in the chapel. \nFamilies of other Christian denominations are welcome\, in keeping with the Chapel’s ecumenical spirit (the celebration follows the Catholic liturgy). \nParents are invited to join the team of organizing parents\, either regularly or occasionally\, with: \n– music during Mass (guitar\, piano\, singing or other)\n– activities/entertainment based on the Sunday Gospel (colouring\, collage\, other)\n– fruit/healthy snacks after Mass \nFor more information and if you are interested\, please send an email to Fr. Bernd Günther SJ (bernd.guenther@chapelforeurope.eu).
