Portes ouvertes: Ode to Life
Saint Francis and other sacred art of Rik Van Schil, O.F.M.
Sales exhibition to benefit projects promoting Franciscan spirituality.

Saturday, 8 and Sunday, 9 October 2022 from 11:00 to 18:00.

In collaboration with the Friars Minor Franciscans and the Tau movement, Chapel for Europe is exhibiting religious works from Rik Van Schil‘s personal collection. Profits from this sales exhibition go to projects supporting Franciscan spirituality.

Franciscan Father Rik van Schil (1931-2020) was co-creator of the art centre Pro Arte Christiana and a sculptor. The foundational tone of his work invariably was harmony with life and the cosmos, delight before creation, and humble bowing before mystery. He worked in a personal style in which influences from Romanesque art shine through.

He himself spoke of his work as follows: “I want to seek above all to portray man in a world given to man by the Creator as ‘a good thing’.” This is a credo that maintains all its relevance today in a world posing existential questions about ecology and peaceful coexistence.
