ROUND TABLE: RELIGIONS AND CIVIL SOCIETY
Organized together with inTOUCH in the framework of the interreligious department of the Chapel for Europe (HOPE), in this round table we shall reflect on the role of religions and non-denominational spiritual convictions in civil society. Contributions of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism will be explored.
Are religions and spiritual convictions still considered an empowering factor able to inspire positive changes in the lives of individuals and societies? What do individuals and societies expect from them today?
What is the social vision and the “added value” religions and spiritual convictions can offer?
Speakers:
Herman Van Rompuy, President Emeritus European Council, Minister of State
– Carlo Luyckx, President Belgian Buddhist Union, author of the book: L’intégrité en politique: une utopie?
Marc Neiger, Rabbi at Beth Hillel Synagogue, Liberal Jewish Community of Belgium
Taoufik Amzile, Politologue, entrepreneur, president LEAD Belgium Entrepreneurs Association, author of the book: Un musulman, c’est quelqu’un de normal.
Moderation:
Aldegonde Brenninkmeijer, ThD h.c., Founder of The Center for the Study of Christianity, Jerusalem, and the Cardinal Bea Centre for Judaic Studies, Rome.
