My Way in Europe: Career Orientation Evening for EU Young Professionals: Insights from Mr John Berrigan
Join us for an inspiring evening with John Berrigan, former Director-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA) at the European Commission.
After beginning his career in the Irish public service, he joined the European Commission in 1986 and held a wide range of roles in DG ECFIN and DG FISMA, working through some of Europe’s most significant economic and financial challenges. Since 2020 and until his retirement on 30 September 2026, he served as Director-General of DG FISMA, following many years in senior management positions within the Commission.
His journey has been one of curiosity, public service and continuous learning; from his early days as a young administrator to leading a major Commission Directorate-General. Along the way, he worked on European monetary integration, financial markets, the euro-area crisis and the development of the EU’s financial stability framework.
For young professionals starting their own “My Way in Europe”, John Berrigan brings not only decades of experience, but also a personal perspective on learning along the way, embracing change, working with people from different backgrounds, and finding purpose in serving the European project.
In this edition of My Way in Europe, John Berrigan will share some of the lessons, experiences, personal insights and advice that have shaped his path. His insights can be valuable guidance and inspiration for the young generation of European professionals navigating their own career paths.
