Conference: “Water: too much, too little”

Chapel for Europe Rue Van Maerlantstraat 22-24, Brussels, Belgium

Together with ELSiA, the Chapel for Europe invites you to the conference "Water: too much, too little" on Wednesday, 2 October 2024 from 9:30 to 12:30. Climate change increases the intensity of weather phenomena. This is most evident in the case of the element without which life on our planet is impossible: water. Floods and water shortages often occur in the same area at different times of the year. Floods endanger residential areas and submerge agricultural land for long periods. Extreme water shortages make farming difficult, if not impossible, in areas that were considered the “vegetable garden of Europe” just a few decades ago. Prolonged drought is causing forest fires in southern Europe to occur earlier in the year, with devastating consequences. The natural habitat of rivers and the biodiversity of life in and around them are in danger of being lost. Conflicts of interest over water are increasing in Europe – between agriculture and industry, between drinking water supply and energy production, between transport and housing. As part of the ‘Season of Creation‘, which ends on 4 October, the the European Laudato Si’ Alliance (ELSiA) wants to look at how we manage water from different perspectives: We will begin […]

Windows to Heaven – Icons in the Orthodox Church

Icons have a very important role in the spirituality and liturgy of the orthodox churches. These images of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary or Saints help the viewer to get in touch with God. They are called "Windows to heaven". Archpriest Paweł Cecha, Rector of the Polish Orthodox parish in Bruxelles will give us an introduction into the Orthodox understanding of icons, the theology and spirituality behind them and their liturgical use. The Chapel offers also a course on writing icons. More information here.

HOW TO DISAGREE WELL – Scriptural Reasoning, a Dialogue Between Faiths

Chapel for Europe Rue Van Maerlantstraat 22-24, Brussels, Belgium

A series of three conferences on the difficult journey of HOPE and how to transform conflict. In English. This series aims to facilitate a deep encounter between faith and some leaders involved in the public and political sphere. From the heart of Europe, we want to contribute to a more sustainable peace in today’s polarized society, not through seeking shallow common ground, but through better understanding our differences – learning to disagree well. Following the “Rose way” we invite you to navigate change and transform conflict so together we can re-imagine peace. This is a joint project of Rose Castle Foundation and the Chapel for Europe. ♦2nd Conference – Tuesday 11.02.2025 – 19:00 HOW TO DISAGREE WELL – SCRIPTURAL REASONING, A DIALOGUE BETWEEN FAITHS Inspired by the World Interfaith Harmony Week, we want to introduce this fresh approach to modern day inter-faith dialogue, which puts scripture at the heart of the conversation. Unlike some forms of inter-faith engagement, it is not about seeking agreement but rather sharing our very different scriptural texts to address a shared contemporary challenge or issue. The aim is to discover a better quality of disagreement, so we can collaborate for God’s sake as we seek […]
