Climate justice and spirituality: an interfaith perspective

But could it also reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the effects of global warming? According to a study published in September 2025, spirituality has become "a motivating factor for climate action". The Catholic movement Laudato Si' and the interfaith NGO Greenfaith, which brings together Christians, Muslims, Jews and Buddhists on a spiritual journey for climate and social justice, reveal a unique overview of believers' commitment to the planet. The external sign of this journey is the cross of ashes on your head, symbolizing commitment and challenge and a blessing as we open our hearts to ourselves, others, and God.
